Connect. Collaborate. Impact.

About SWAN

Our Story

The Strategic Workforce & Arts Network (SWAN) was created in response to a clear need emerging across Pennsylvania’s nonprofit and creative sectors. Organizations were striving to serve their communities despite shrinking budgets, rising demands, and a rapidly changing landscape. Many felt isolated, overwhelmed, or unsupported in areas like accessibility, strategic planning, ethical use of technology, and building sustainable workforces.

SWAN was founded to meet that need.

Built on the belief that nonprofits are stronger when they lift each other, SWAN provides a shared framework for collaboration, resource-sharing, and cross-organizational support. Our first participating cohort organizations are helping to forge a model rooted in respect, transparency, compassion, and the understanding that none of us can do this work alone.

SWAN exists to help all of us grow together.

Mission

To strengthen Pennsylvania’s nonprofit and arts ecosystems by promoting collaboration, accessibility, ethical innovation, shared resources, and community kindness—creating a unified network where organizations can thrive together.

Vision

A future where every nonprofit and arts organization, regardless of size or budget, has equitable access to tools, training, support, and partnerships that allow them to flourish while serving their communities with excellence.

Our Core Values

Kindness

We treat every partner—large or small—with genuine respect, empathy, and encouragement.

Collaboration

We believe cooperation is more powerful than competition.

We champion accessible spaces, programs, events, and digital tools.

We help organizations build long-term stability for staff, students, and communities.

Transparency & Trust

We value open communication, shared learning, and mutual support.

Compassionate Communities

We believe arts and nonprofit work must uplift people—not overwhelm them.

What SWAN Is

A collaborative network of nonprofits, arts organizations, educators, and creative professionals

A shared resource hub

A platform for accessible events and community information

A connector of organizations, teaching artists, and opportunities

A support system for ethical practices and inclusive programs

A workforce development initiative

A kindness-driven movement to strengthen Pennsylvania

What SWAN Is Not

SWAN is not a consulting firm.

SWAN is not a replacement for existing nonprofit consultants or development professionals.

SWAN is not a competitor to local organizations—SWAN amplifies their work.

SWAN is not a barrier or gatekeeper; it is a support system.

SWAN naturally offers guidance to member organizations, but always with the intent of strengthening—not replacing—their own internal capacity.
