Connect. Collaborate. Impact.

SWAN Pennsylvania

Empowering nonprofits, arts organizations, and community partners to build a stronger, more inclusive, and more sustainable future together.

Building Stronger Futures Through Collaboration

The Strategic Workforce & Arts Network of Pennsylvania (SWAN) was created to help arts, culture, heritage, and community organizations navigate a rapidly changing world through collaboration, shared knowledge, and practical support.

SWAN brings together nonprofits, educators, artists, community leaders, and workforce partners to strengthen regional impact while reducing isolation, duplication of effort, and barriers to access. We believe organizations are stronger when they share ideas, resources, opportunities, and solutions rather than compete for limited attention and support.

Our current goals include:

  • Encouraging collaboration and resource-sharing among organizations
  • Supporting workforce readiness through arts, culture, communication, and creative skill development
  • Expanding access to affordable training, professional development, and educational opportunities
  • Promoting ethical and accessible use of emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence
  • Strengthening visibility for community events, programs, and organizations across the region
  • Helping nonprofits build sustainable systems for governance, fundraising, marketing, and community engagement
  • Creating practical tools and shared infrastructure that allow organizations to focus more energy on mission-driven work

SWAN believes the arts are not separate from community development or workforce development.

Creativity, communication, leadership, adaptability, and collaboration are essential workforce skills, and arts organizations play a vital role in developing them across generations.

By building connections across sectors and communities, SWAN aims to help create a more sustainable, accessible, and collaborative future for organizations throughout Pennsylvania and beyond.

Our Story

The Strategic Workforce & Arts Network (SWAN) was created in response to a clear need emerging across Pennsylvania’s nonprofit and creative sectors. Organizations were striving to serve their communities despite shrinking budgets, rising demands, and a rapidly changing landscape. Many felt isolated, overwhelmed, or unsupported in areas such as accessibility, strategic planning, the ethical use of technology, and building sustainable workforces.

SWAN was founded to meet that need.

Built on the belief that nonprofits are stronger when they lift each other up, SWAN provides a shared framework for collaboration, resource sharing, and cross-organizational support. Our first participating cohort organizations are helping to forge a model rooted in respect, transparency, compassion, and the understanding that none of us can do this work alone.

SWAN exists to help all of us grow together.

What SWAN Is

  • A collaborative network of nonprofits, arts organizations, educators, and creative professionals
  • A shared resource hub
  • A platform for accessible events and community information
  • A connector of organizations, teaching artists, and opportunities
  • A support system for ethical practices and inclusive programs
  • A workforce development initiative
  • A kindness-driven movement to strengthen Pennsylvania

What SWAN Is Not

  • SWAN is not a consulting firm.
  • SWAN is not a replacement for existing nonprofit consultants or development professionals.
  • SWAN is not a competitor to local organizations—SWAN amplifies their work.
  • SWAN is not a barrier or gatekeeper; it is a support system.
  • SWAN naturally offers guidance to member organizations, but always with the intent of strengthening—not replacing—their own internal capacity.

SWAN is more than a network—it’s a movement.
